The section of the Howard Watson Trail between Mandaumin Road and Waterworks Road had been the subject of complaints from some users. The gravel section contained coarse and pointy stones in its aggregate, making it uncomfortable to use for both cyclists and pedestrians. The difference in enjoyment of this section as opposed to other sections along the 16 kilometre trail was large enough for users to want to change. Maintenance is generally performed on one or a few sections at a time, and some sections have recently been paved as well.
We are happy to announce that this section has now been upgraded and has fine sand applied. It is packed down to minimize erosion or washing away during rain storms. We are confident that navigating the trail here is now much more comfortable, for walking; alone or with pets, running, and cycling. We appreciate the ongoing maintenance and support to keep our trails beautiful in our city.
Committee members know the trails are being used, and especially the Howard Watson Trail provides enjoyment of nature and wildlife in the middle of the city. If you find anything that you feel requires attention along the trail, please contact the City and make a detailed comment, at https://www.sarnia.ca/comment/.
The Bluewater Trails Committee strife to keep our trails beautiful and attractive, and an increasing number of people are using them.
