Sarnia-Lambton will welcome hundreds of birding enthusiasts from across the province for the Ontario Field Ornithologists’ 2025 Annual Convention from September 19 to 21.

Hundreds of birding enthusiasts from across the province will flock to Sarnia-Lambton this fall for the Ontario Field Ornithologists’ (OFO) 2025 Annual Convention. The three-day celebration of birding and nature is scheduled for September 19-21.
The region, nestled along key migratory flyways, is being highlighted as an ecologically rich area for birdwatching. According to the OFO, September is “widely considered one of the best times of year for birdwatching in the region,” offering exceptional opportunities to observe migratory species.
“We’re excited to bring the OFO community to Sarnia-Lambton for what promises to be a dynamic and rewarding weekend,” said Jeff Skevington, OFO President. “This area is a gem for birders, and the timing couldn’t be better to experience its full richness during fall migration.”
The convention’s robust program includes a keynote address by renowned author and gull expert Amar Ayyash, as well as the presentation of the Distinguished Ornithologist Award to Doug McRae for his significant contributions to the field in Ontario.
Attendees will have the opportunity to join a wide range of guided field trips led by expert birders, exploring local hotspots and showcasing the region’s biodiversity. Evening events, including a casual “Birds and Beers” dinner and a lively Birding Quiz, are slated to be held at the Dante Club.
The event is not limited to OFO members; the public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Space is limited to 300 participants, and the registration deadline is September 12, 2025.
Further details, including the full schedule and registration, can be found at the OFO website.
